Securing the North Sea: Strengthening Energy Security Through Cooperation

At OEEC, we heard a powerful message: energy security and offshore wind resilience must go hand in hand.

Aukje de Vries, Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Aid, opened the session by reaffirming that wind power is essential to the Dutch energy system, and that government, industry, and international partners must work closely together to safeguard it.

From there, the panel delivered clear insights:

🔹 Paul Flos (Ministerie van Defensie) emphasized the seriousness of today’s security landscape and the need for shared responsibility and robust supply chains. “We are in this together.”

🔹 Jurjan Blokland (Van Oord) highlighted the operational reality: we can’t protect everything, so rapid response and spare capacity are crucial.

🔹 Paul Doherty, PhD. (Venterra Group) stressed that resilience must be built in from the start, even if it comes with additional cost.
The message across the board was unmistakable:

👉 A resilient, secure North Sea requires cooperation, preparedness, and investment from all sides.
