Carbon Capture and Storage is crucial to decarbonise hard-to-abate sectors such as cement, steel, refining and chemicals. The North Sea offers great potential to store large volumes of CO2 in depleted gas fields. With the offshore knowledge and technical expertise already established, combined with a robust supply chain and some parts of infrastructure fit for re-use, all elements are in place for a new business model for the offshore sector in the Netherlands. Everything seems to be in place, but who picks up the tab?
